Private Jet to Milan

Milan has three airports and a business aviation terminal twenty minutes from the Duomo at Linate. It is the door to the Lakes, Franciacorta and the Alps as much as to Fashion Week: under two hours from London, an hour from Zurich or Geneva, six from Dubai.

Airports

Which airport for Milan.

All three take every jet in the fleet on runway length; Linate wins on the drive, Malpensa on hours and slots, Bergamo on the road east to the lakes and the wine country.

AirportTo the centreRunwayJets that fit

Bergamo Orio al Serio BGY45 km, 50 to 60 min to the centre2,874 m 70 of 70 VIP airliner
  • Milano Linate (LIN): The city airport and the first choice: a business aviation terminal with its own customs and a 2,440 m runway that takes every jet in the fleet. Slots are restricted, so the operator applies early; Fashion Week fills the parking a month ahead.

  • Milano Malpensa (MXP): The 24-hour alternative with no slot pressure and the longest runway: the choice for ultra-long-range arrivals, late nights, and anyone heading to Como, Varese or the Ticino.

  • Bergamo Orio al Serio (BGY): Busy with cargo and low-cost airlines but efficient for private flights, and the nearest field to Franciacorta, Lake Iseo and the eastern shore of Lake Garda.

Rule of thumb: published take-off distance at maximum weight, sea level, a standard day and a dry runway. Altitude, weather and airport rules can still rule out an aircraft the runway allows. Check any airport in the runway checker

Fashion Week and the Salone add positioning when Linate is full; a Malpensa arrival often prices the same with parking guaranteed. A quote names the actual aircraft and holds the price.

When to Go

Milan through the year.

Late February and late September. Fashion Weeks: a week each of the heaviest private traffic Milan sees. Linate's parking is gone a month ahead, Malpensa takes the overflow, and hotels in the Quadrilatero are booked out.

April. Salone del Mobile and Design Week fill the city for six days with the design and property world; demand from across Europe, slots still workable at Malpensa.

Early September. The Italian Grand Prix at Monza, 20 minutes from Linate: both city airports see race-weekend peaks, with parking at a premium from the Thursday.

May to September. The Lakes season: Como, Garda and Iseo at their best, with Malpensa and Bergamo as the practical doors. July and August are hot in the city and busy on the water.

August. Milan closes for Ferragosto: offices, restaurants and some hotels shut around the 15th. The airports are quiet and prices soft.

December. The opera season opens at La Scala on 7 December, and Christmas brings a short peak at Linate before the city empties for the holidays.

In Brief

Milan, in brief.

Where to stay

The Quadrilatero and the streets around La Scala hold the grand hotels: the Four Seasons in a former convent on Via Gesù, the Mandarin Oriental, the Bulgari in its garden off Via Manzoni, the Armani above its own store, the Principe di Savoia by the station for the classic choice. Twenty minutes from Linate, all of them. For the lake, Cernobbio and Tremezzo are an hour from the city and 45 minutes from Malpensa, with Villa d’Este and the Grand Hotel Tremezzo as the fixed points.

What to do

Book ahead for the two things everyone wants: The Last Supper, which sells timed tickets months out, and La Scala, whose season runs from 7 December to July. The Duomo roof, the Pinacoteca di Brera and the Fondazione Prada take a day between them; the Navigli canals take the evening. Outside the city, Como is an hour, Franciacorta’s sparkling-wine estates ninety minutes, the Piedmont truffle fairs at Alba in October two hours, and Lake Garda’s western shore two and a half.

Getting around

A car meets the flight at the FBO; in the centre the car is for evenings, since the Quadrilatero is a ten-minute walk end to end and the city’s Area C congestion charge and ZTL zones make driving slow. Milan’s Metro is quick for a small party. Linate to the Duomo is 20 minutes outside the rush, 35 in it; Malpensa is 50 minutes on the motorway at any hour outside the Friday evening exodus to the lakes.

Good to know

Restaurants book up for Fashion Week and the Salone weeks ahead; at other times a day’s notice is enough, and dinner starts at 8.30. Aperitivo at 7 is the city’s habit. Shops close on Sunday morning and for much of August. Italy is on Central European Time, an hour ahead of London. Customs clears non-EU arrivals in the Linate and Malpensa business terminals in minutes, and a flight from the UK or Switzerland is an international arrival with passport control.

Questions

Before you fly to Milan.

How long is a private jet flight to Milan from London?

About 1 h 50 in a light jet from Luton, Farnborough or Biggin Hill to Linate. Zurich is 45 minutes, Geneva and Nice under an hour, Paris 1 h 20, Frankfurt 1 h 15. From Dubai it is about 5 h 50 non-stop in a heavy jet.

Which Milan airport should I use?

Linate for the city: 20 minutes to the Duomo, a business aviation terminal, every jet type accepted. Malpensa when Linate has no slot or parking, for late-night arrivals, and for Lake Como; Bergamo for Franciacorta, Iseo and Garda.

How much does a private jet to Milan cost?

From about €5,000 one way from Zurich or Nice in a light jet, about €9,500 from London, and about €48,000 from Dubai in a heavy jet. The whole aircraft is priced, not the seat, and Milan is a frequent empty-leg origin in both Fashion Weeks.

How far ahead should I book?

A day is usually enough outside the peaks, often less. For Fashion Week, the Salone and the Monza weekend, book three to four weeks ahead: the limit is a parking position at Linate, not the aircraft.

How do I get to Lake Como from the airport?

By car from Malpensa in about 45 minutes to Como or Cernobbio, from Linate about an hour; by helicopter in 15 minutes from either airport to a helipad on the lake, and several of the grand hotels have their own.

Can I continue to Sardinia, Venice or the Alps from Milan?

Yes. Olbia is 1 h 05 in a light jet and a route we fly all summer; Venice is 40 minutes; Courchevel, St. Moritz and Cortina are reached by helicopter or a short hop to their gateway airports. One booking, one advisor.

Is Linate open at night?

Linate runs from early morning until about 23:00 and then closes; Malpensa is open 24 hours. If you expect to arrive after 23:00, we route you through Malpensa from the start rather than risk a diversion.
