Private Jet to Courchevel
Courchevel has its own altiport, but no jet can land on it: the 537-metre strip takes turboprops and helicopters only. The fast way in is a jet to Chambéry or Geneva and a helicopter for the last leg, door to piste in under three hours from London.
Which airport for Courchevel.
No jet lands at Courchevel itself, so the real decision is Chambéry for the shortest helicopter hop or Geneva for long-range aircraft and Saturday slots; the altiport is the last twenty minutes, by helicopter or turboprop.
| Airport | To the centre | Runway | Jets that fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Courchevel Altiport CVF | Minutes above Courchevel 1850 | 537 m | 0 of 70 Too short for jet operations |
| Chambéry-Savoie CMF | About 110 km, 1 h 45 by road or 20 min by helicopter | 2,020 m | 69 of 70 VIP airliner |
| Geneva GVA | About 190 km, 2 h 30 by road or 35 min by helicopter | 3,900 m | 70 of 70 VIP airliner |
| Grenoble-Isère GNB | About 150 km, 2 h by road | 3,050 m | 70 of 70 VIP airliner |
Courchevel Altiport (CVF): The famous sloping strip: 537 m of asphalt at 2,010 m with an 18.5% gradient, daytime and visual conditions only. Turboprops such as the Pilatus PC-12 and helicopters land here; no jet does. In snow or low cloud it closes, so every booking carries a road plan. This is an altiport: the runway slopes, the landing is committed once begun, and there is no go-around. It demands specific certification and recent experience, and it is closed or limited in poor visibility. Runway length is the least of the constraints here.
Chambéry-Savoie (CMF): The usual jet gateway for the Three Valleys: a 2,020 m runway, a business aviation terminal and the shortest helicopter hop. It closes at night, and winter Saturdays are slot-controlled, so the operator applies early.
Geneva (GVA): The choice for long-range jets, for arrivals from outside Europe and for Saturdays when Chambéry is full. Open round the clock, with helicopter operators based on the field.
Grenoble-Isère (GNB): The alternate when weather or slots rule out Chambéry: a 3,050 m runway, few restrictions, and a drive via Albertville like the one from Chambéry.
Rule of thumb: published take-off distance at maximum weight, sea level, a standard day and a dry runway. Altitude, weather and airport rules can still rule out an aircraft the runway allows. Check any airport in the runway checker

Indicative one-way prices for the whole aircraft, all-inclusive: crew, fuel, handling, landing fees and catering, from operator pricing seen by our desk in autumn 2026. The jet rows land at Chambéry, the Dubai row at Geneva; the helicopter to the altiport is a separate leg from about €3,500, and in bad weather a car replaces it. Peak Saturdays, positioning and de-icing move the figures. A quote names the actual aircraft and holds the price.
Courchevel through the year.
Early December to mid-April. The season. Lifts open in early December and close in mid-April; the altiport runs whenever the strip is clear and the sky is visual.
Christmas and New Year. The tightest fortnight: helicopter slots, Chambéry parking and chalets all go in October. Confirm by early November.
February. French school holidays run across the month in rotating zones and the UK half-term falls mid-month; Saturdays at Chambéry and Geneva are slot-controlled, so a Friday or Sunday arrival is often the better plan.
March and early April. Spring skiing: longer days, softer snow, easier slots and lower prices for the same aircraft.
July and August. Summer in the Three Valleys: mountain biking, hiking and the altiport open for sightseeing flights; the resort is quiet and Chambéry has no Saturday pressure.
Bad weather. Snowfall or low cloud closes the altiport to all traffic. The helicopter waits or the drive takes over; either way the jet still lands, so the itinerary never depends on the strip alone.
Courchevel, in brief.
Where to stay
Courchevel 1850 is the address: Les Airelles, Le K2 Palace, Cheval Blanc and L’Apogée sit ski-in, ski-out above the Croisette, and the altiport is five minutes up the road. Courchevel Moriond (1650) is sunnier and quieter, with the same lift pass; Le Praz (1300) keeps the old village and the ski jumps from the 1992 Olympics. Private chalets with staff are the usual booking for a group, and most come with a driver who meets the helicopter.
What to do
The Three Valleys is the largest linked ski area in the world, and Courchevel’s side of it is the gentlest for mixed groups: wide, groomed pistes on the north-facing slopes, tree runs down to Le Praz, and the Saulire ridge for the rest. Off the snow there is the Aquamotion pool complex, dog sledding from 1650, and a dinner run by snowmobile to Le Cap Horn or Le Bel Air. In summer the lifts carry bikes, the altiport flies sightseeing circuits over Mont Blanc, and some years the Tour de France comes through.
Getting around
The resort runs on its free ski buses and a fleet of chalet 4x4s; taxis are scarce on peak Saturdays. From the altiport the chalet driver or the concierge car is the norm. If the weather turns, the drive from Chambéry is 1 h 45 via Albertville and Moûtiers, and from Geneva about 2 h 30; on changeover Saturdays in February add an hour to both.
Good to know
The resort sits at around 1,800 m and the top lifts reach 2,700 m, so the first afternoon is a slow one for most. Ski passes, lessons and mountain guides can all be pre-booked through the chalet. Restaurants on the mountain need a reservation in high season; dinner in 1850 means a 9 pm table and a dress code at the palaces. Shops and most hotels close between late April and early December.
Before you fly to Courchevel.
How long does it take to reach Courchevel by private jet from London?
About 2 h 45 door to piste: 1 h 40 in a light jet to Chambéry, a short walk across the apron and 20 minutes by helicopter to the altiport, which sits minutes above Courchevel 1850. By road from Chambéry it is 1 h 45, more on a winter Saturday.
Can a private jet land at Courchevel Altiport?
No. The strip is 537 m long, slopes at 18.5% and is used in daylight and visual conditions only, so it is limited to turboprops such as the Pilatus PC-12 and to helicopters. Jets use Chambéry, Geneva, Grenoble or Lyon, and the last leg is by helicopter or car.
Which airport is best for Courchevel?
Chambéry for the shortest helicopter hop and the lowest jet price, Geneva for long-range aircraft, Saturday slots and a 24-hour airport, Grenoble when weather or slots rule the first two out. Tell us the date and we check Chambéry's slots before we quote.
How much does a private jet to Courchevel cost?
From about €6,500 one way from Paris in a light jet to Chambéry, about €8,500 from London, plus the helicopter to the altiport from about €3,500. A Dubai departure in a heavy jet to Geneva starts near €65,000. The whole aircraft is priced, so a family of six pays the same as two.
How far ahead should I book for the ski season?
For Christmas, New Year and the February holidays, book in October or early November: helicopter slots and Chambéry parking go first, before the chalets. In January and March a few days is usually enough.
What happens if the altiport is closed by weather?
The jet still lands at Chambéry or Geneva. Our driver is already on the apron with a car, so the day loses an hour and a half, not the holiday. We watch the forecast from the day before and tell you which way it is going.
Can I fly straight to the altiport in a turboprop instead?
Yes, from Geneva, Chambéry, Lyon or Annecy in a Pilatus PC-12 with a crew trained for the strip. It carries up to eight, takes skis in the hold and lands at the top of the resort; it needs daylight and clear weather, so it is a morning plan.
Can we take skis and ski boots on the aircraft?
Yes. A light jet carries skis for four to six in the hold; the helicopter takes skis in its baggage pod or on an external rack, and the chalet staff collect them at the altiport. Ask us for the aircraft's hold length if you fly with long skis.
