Private Jet to the Maldives
The Maldives are a ten-hour non-stop flight from Europe in an ultra-long-range jet, with the resort transfer the real planning question: speedboat, seaplane in daylight, or a jet straight into Maafaru for the Noonu atoll.
Which airport for the Maldives.
Velana takes every jet in the reference fleet and is the right arrival for most resorts; the question is the transfer afterwards, which is where Maafaru, Gan and Hanimaadhoo save an hour or a seaplane.
| Airport | To the centre | Runway | Jets that fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Velana International MLE | On Hulhulé island, 10 min by speedboat to Malé; resorts by speedboat, seaplane or domestic flight | 3,400 m | 70 of 70 VIP airliner |
| Gan International GAN | Addu atoll in the far south, 90 min by air from Malé | 3,658 m | 70 of 70 VIP airliner |
| Hanimaadhoo HAQ | Haa Dhaalu atoll in the far north, 55 min by air from Malé | 2,465 m | 70 of 70 VIP airliner |
| Maafaru NMF | Noonu atoll, 25 min by speedboat to the Noonu resorts | – | – |
Velana International (MLE): The arrival for most resorts. The runway takes any jet, the seaplane terminal is next door for the resort transfer and the private handling is quick. Parking is limited and reserved in advance; in the high season it sells out weeks ahead.
Gan International (GAN): For the southern resorts and a quieter arrival: a long runway, a small terminal and resort transfers by boat.
Hanimaadhoo (HAQ): For the northern atolls, with a runway of about 2,450 m and resort transfers by speedboat.
Maafaru (NMF): Built for private jets as the direct gateway to Velaa, Cheval Blanc Randheli and the other Noonu resorts; a 2,200 m runway that takes large business jets, which saves the seaplane leg entirely. We hold no runway record for it yet, hence the dash in the table.
Rule of thumb: published take-off distance at maximum weight, sea level, a standard day and a dry runway. Altitude, weather and airport rules can still rule out an aircraft the runway allows. Check any airport in the runway checker

Indicative one-way prices for the whole aircraft, all-inclusive: crew, fuel, handling, landing and parking fees and catering. They reflect operator pricing seen by our desk in autumn 2026; positioning flights, festive-season parking and a fuel stop in a heavy jet move them. The Maldives through the year.
December to April. The dry season and the high season: calm seas, 30 °C and the clearest water. Resorts and Velana's parking book out for the festive weeks; from November, confirm aircraft and parking three weeks ahead.
Christmas and New Year. The peak of the year. Resorts impose minimum stays and festive supplements, seaplane slots are full and parking at Velana is sold out early; confirm by mid-November.
Easter. A second peak for European families, usually with resort minimum stays of four or five nights.
May to October. The south-west monsoon: short, heavy showers, more wind, lower rates and the surf season. Diving stays good, and manta rays gather at Hanifaru Bay in Baa atoll from June to November.
Daylight transfers. Seaplanes fly only in daylight. An arrival after about 3 pm means a speedboat resort, a domestic flight or a night near Malé, which is worth planning into the departure time from Europe.
Ramadan. In 2027 it falls in February and March. It affects Malé city, not the resorts, where everything runs as usual.
The Maldives, in brief.
Where to stay
Choose the resort by its transfer before anything else. North and South Malé atoll resorts such as One&Only Reethi Rah, Gili Lankanfushi and the Waldorf Astoria are a speedboat ride from Velana, so a late arrival is no problem. Baa atoll, with Soneva Fushi and Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru, and Raa, with Joali, are a seaplane away and need daylight. Noonu, home to Velaa, Cheval Blanc Randheli and Soneva Jani, is the one atoll a jet can reach directly, through Maafaru.
What to do
The reef is the reason to come: house-reef snorkelling from the villa, diving on channels and thilas with the resort’s own centre, and from June to November the manta gatherings at Hanifaru Bay in Baa, a UNESCO biosphere reserve. Surf breaks around North Malé run from April to October. Beyond the water there is little the resort does not provide, and that is the point: spa, sandbank dinners, a sunset dhoni, a day on a private yacht between atolls.
Getting around
Every move is by water or air. Speedboat transfers run around the clock; seaplanes fly from sunrise to mid-afternoon and are shared with other resorts, so a 20-minute hop can involve a wait. Domestic flights to Gan, Hanimaadhoo and the atoll airstrips take about an hour, followed by a boat. Between resorts, a private yacht or a chartered seaplane is the only way; there are no roads to speak of.
Good to know
The Maldives are four hours ahead of central Europe in winter and three in summer, so an overnight flight from Europe lands around midday, in time for a seaplane. Alcohol is served on resort islands only and may not be brought into the country. Dress is relaxed on resorts and covered in Malé and on local islands. The rufiyaa exists, but resorts bill in US dollars and accept every card. Mobile coverage is good, and sunscreen must be reef-safe on most islands.
Before you fly to the Maldives.
How long is a private jet flight to the Maldives from Europe?
Nine to eleven hours non-stop in an ultra-long-range jet: about 10 h 30 from London, 10 h 15 from Paris, 9 h 40 from Zurich and 9 h 20 from Munich. A heavy jet makes one fuel stop, usually in the Gulf, which adds about an hour and a half; a super-midsize jet stops twice and is rarely worth it.
Which airport should I use for the Maldives?
Velana (MLE) for almost every resort: any jet lands, the seaplane terminal is next door and the private handling is quick. Maafaru (NMF) if your resort is in Noonu atoll, because it saves the seaplane. Gan in the far south and Hanimaadhoo in the far north serve the resorts around them.
How much does a private jet to the Maldives cost?
From about €110,000 one way from Milan or Munich in an ultra-long-range jet to about €125,000 from London, and from about €36,000 from Dubai or Singapore in a super-midsize jet. The whole aircraft is priced; a family of eight pays the same as two. A heavy jet with a fuel stop is usually €15,000 to €20,000 less than the non-stop figure.
How do I get from the airport to the resort?
By speedboat for the North and South Malé atoll resorts, usually 15 to 45 minutes; by seaplane for Baa, Raa, Noonu and the central atolls, 20 to 60 minutes in daylight only; by domestic flight plus boat for the far atolls. We book the transfer with the resort to match the aircraft's arrival time.
How far in advance should I book?
Outside the festive weeks, a week is comfortable and a few days is possible. From mid-December to early January and at Easter, three weeks gives the best choice of aircraft and secures parking at Velana, which sells out.
Do I need a visa for the Maldives?
No. Every nationality receives a free 30-day visa on arrival with a valid passport, a confirmed resort booking and an onward ticket, which for a private flight is the return leg. Immigration is cleared in minutes in the private handling area.
Is there a luggage limit?
On the jet, only what the aircraft can carry, which in an ultra-long-range jet is generous. On the seaplane the limit is usually 20 kg per person plus 5 kg hand luggage, with excess charged by weight and space; resorts can send excess bags by boat. A speedboat resort avoids the question.
Can the aircraft wait for us during the stay?
For a few days, yes, parking permitting; for longer stays the aircraft usually returns to base and comes back for the departure, which costs less than parking and crew hotels. We price both for you.
